NOA Osun Walks For World Sight Day

The Nigerian Optometric Association, NOA, Osun State Chapter, will on Thursday, 10th October 2024, embark on a “Walk” in observance of this year’s World Sight Day.

A statement from the Osun State Chairperson of NOA, Dr Orighomisan Soleye, says the ‘Walk’ will kick-off from the popular Olaiya Bridge in Osogbo, the State capital, and will be rounded-off at the Freedom Park, also in Osogbo.

According to Dr. Soleye, this year, the Osun State NOA, in tandem with stakeholders across the globe, will focus on Vision For Children.

The 2024 World Sight Day theme is “Vision For Children.”

Dr Soleye said, “The Walk is expected to feature members of NOA in Osun State, friends of NOA Osun as well as other stakeholders.

Other Activities

Ahead of the walk on Thursday, the Association will hold two Media Parleys on Wednesday, one in the morning on the AM Café of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC)
and another, on Diamond FM Ilesa,at one o’clock in the afternoon on the same day.

According to her, the organisation will have free eye-screening at St. Francis Secondary School, Isale-Aro Osogbo.

This she stressed, “will give opportunity to a number of people, especially children, to get free consultation and counselling”

The World Sight Day

Since the year 2000, World Sight Day has been observed on an annual basis.

The aim is to draw attention and galvanize action to address blindness and vision impairment.

A brainchild of SightFirst CAMPAIGN of Lions Club International Foundation; the day is now being coordinated annually by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) in collaboration with the World Health Organization.
