Global Energy Efficiency Conference Opens In Brussels

The International Energy Agency’s 10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency opens today in  Brussels, Belgium.

The conference is being co-hosted by IEA Executive Director Dr Fatih Birol and European Commissioner for Energy and Housing Dan Jørgensen,

The Conference provides the key forum in 2025 for Ministers, CEOs and senior leaders to come together to chart a path towards achieving the doubling goal.

They will examine how best to maximise energy efficiency’s potential to boost affordability for consumers, industrial competitiveness and energy security – in every region of the world.

The latest IEA analysis shows that governments are not on track to achieve the doubling goal, with stronger policy action needed in a range of areas such as buildings, industry and transport.

The Role of Energy Efficiency

The role that energy efficiency can play in boosting industrial competitiveness and energy affordability for households and businesses will also be discussed in detail at the conference in Brussels.

“The current rate of progress in energy efficiency is disappointingly slow, given the critical role it can play in improving energy security, reducing energy costs and lowering emissions,” said Dr Birol.

The 10th edition of the IEA’s landmark event comes at a pivotal moment. Governments agreed at COP28 to double the rate of global energy efficiency improvements by 2030.

Developing Solution

Achieving this goal is critical if the international community is to bring about the secure, affordable clean energy system that can meet our shared climate goals. But progress must accelerate rapidly if the goal is to be met.

A ministerial roundtable chaired by the co-hosts will provide the setting for government decision makers to discuss how to move forward.

A parallel CEO roundtable, held in collaboration with the Energy Efficiency Movement, will allow industry leaders to examine the challenges and opportunities they face in order to overcome barriers to further progress.

Over two days of high-level panels, roundtable discussions, workshops and meetings, participants will develop solutions for enacting stronger policy action and unlocking investment in energy efficiency.

The event is scheduled for the 12th and 13th June.
