Tinubu Renames NDDC, Winds Up Sports Ministry

The Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu, and the Federal Executive Council has renamed the Niger Delta Development Commission  and wound up the Ministry of Sports Development.

The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Bayo Onanuga, said in a tweet that the decision was reached during the FEC meeting held in Abuja.

According to Onanuga, “There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission , North East Development Commission.”

The tweet also said that “The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports,”. This  is in other to develop a vibrant sports economy.

The statement added that the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.

The Niger Delta Development Commission was established by an Act of the National Assembly in 2000 to replace the OMPADEC. Its broad mandate includes bringing about infrastructure development in the Niger Delta area and, more generally, catalyzing and facilitating development in the region.
