The CEO Internet Exchange Point, Nigeria. IXPN, Muhammed Rudman, says the organisation has made a huge impact by attracting major players, into the country including the data centres and content providers.
Speaking in an interview with Technology Times, Rudman, said that IXPN’s work has significantly dropped cost because of domestication of the traffic of the internet.
According to him , “when IXPN started operating 99.9 percent of internet traffic goes out either through the submarine cable at that time, SAT 3 or through the satellite. With what we are doing now, we have attracted all the service content providers in the world into Nigeria, and we have achieved from 0.1 % to 50- 60% of internet traffic is now domesticated in Nigeria based on what we are doing and that is huge .
The IXPN CEO said that with the advent of IXPN, all the major internet network subscribers’ are connected to the organisation including content service provider
“When we came in there were no content service providers and exchange of traffic takes place on the internet between what is called access networks, Networks that you use to access the internet. MTN, Airtel and all the internet service providers, The access network reaches content network” Rudman said.
“We have attracted some of those huge content providers into Nigeria and those content service providers request data interswitch and because of of our services, we have seen the evolvement of data centres into the country.” He declared .
He said that a lot of career centres were springing up, right now, and that there are currently multiple that are career neutral and many more are coming into the country.
He added that some of them are really upgrading their capacity because of the inter connectivity within Nigeria.
